Since 2019, I had dipped my toe in Family Constellations a few times and each time was so eye opening that I needed some time to integrate what had been shown.

When I finally took the leap to become a facilitator, I started feeling and hearing so many people who belongs to my system. They all wanted their story to be told and it was very overwhelming.

In all that constellating we did to professionally and personally develop this skill (it’s so much more than a skill), the three things that blew my mind were:

1. Everyone belongs. Even those who have wronged, died or weren’t even born have a place I. The system and play their role. Excluding them creates imbalance.

2. Your parents gave you the biggest gift anyone can give you, life. No matter who they are or have done to you or in life, you can still accept and receive fully the gift of life without allowing for unhealthy behaviour. The one suffering from not receiving the gift of life is you.

3. Not everything you experience in this life time is yours. The echoes and entanglements throughout the system can feel intense and overwhelming to carry. But the relief of not carrying it anymore brings a lightness you have been wishing for your whole life.

Those who feel the nudge towards Family Constellations have chosen to be the generational curse breakers.

I am slowing down but not in a social sense

Did you know that when you are finally open enough to see a shadow part of you, it is really confronting?

I was “seeing” unreliability all around me, was judging others, was annoyed with how some people can say they were going to do something and then not doing it.

This doesn’t mean I only look at myself, work on integrating my shadow and don’t hold people accountable.

No! You are not a doormat😂

But your boundaries, words and what you attract will be something completely different if you first notice what is your part.

Otherwise you will spend your whole life irritated with others and trying to make them change.

As soon as I accepted my unreliable side, I felt less agitated by my unreliable peers. I just didn’t give them anymore of my energy.

….it feels great whenever everything is flowing well, when there are no conflict in your relationships are around you, when you know what to expect, when you can have a plan and routine.

But this is not freedom.

Freedom is when your sense of trust and ability to stay calm inside even through a storm.
Freedom is also knowing (on a deep level) knowing that you will be ok no matter what you need to go through and what changes happen externally.
Freedom is expansive, freedom is open, freedom feels calm.

Control is an attempt to feel safe. It is a behaviour we lean on to make sure nothing unwanted happens. It is a trauma response and it is how you see most people around (including yourself) lead their every day lives.

Still most people dream of feeling more freedom in their everyday life. Freedom to be themselves, freedom to use their times in the way they like the most, freedom with food, freedom in their relationships, freedom in their relationship with themselves.

What can be done?

Focus on feeling a deep sense of safety and clam. My personal favourite is to use “The Journey” whenever I’m triggered in feeling unsafe or when big changes are happening. Acknowledge your feelings of fear, anxiety, confusion, despair etc. Focus on calming down your nervous system with calming practises and healthy routines.

Everything that is a struggle in your life is also there to push you to be the best version of ourselves.

From a more practical sense, everything we use externally to feel momentarily relieved or distracted are just a way of distracting ourselves from our thoughts, beliefs and feelings.

So the more you learn how to explore and release that within yourself you trying to distract yourself from, the less you will try to distract yourself. And instead just be.

How do I “sit with my feelings” then? You ask…

You are not expected to know on your own. This is a step-by-step practice that I learnt once and you can learn too. My goal is that whenever you want to binge or feel triggered in any way, you can sit down, listen to the audio and afterwards feel lighter and happier. That’s what I wish for you😊🫶🏻🌸

Let’s explore this concept a little further shall we?….

Each day we make a decision about what to fuel our bodies with. This decision is made from our internal world and depending on what we feel we are lacking inside (love, energy, calm etc) that decision will look differently on a day to day basis.

Remember that everything outside of you is a direct reflection of your internal world so if you name any food as bad or good. This means that you think there a part of yourself that is good or bad. If you then choose the “bad food”, that means that the bad side of you is choosing this.

Now take a moment to think about this:
What is your “bad” part of you?
What part of you is so bad?

Is it the one that lacks discipline or control? Is it the part of you you call fat? Is it the one that isn’t taking care of yourself?

This part is called your shadow. It is a part of you that was split and created and some point of your life to protect yourself.

So to sum up….when you are reaching for “bad” foods and feel guilty or shamed about it. It is actually an invitation for you to explore why that part of you was created in the first place and what it is trying to protect.

It sounds scary to think of allowing those feelings to grow stronger, we need to be a part of this society and get our tasks if the day completed right?

Your mind and body are not separate.
Each one affects each other.

It was from my struggle with emotional eating that I decided to become a Naturopath. I was obsessed with food, what to eat and not, and I thought that I could find the scientific and biochemical reason to my binge eating and cravings.

All the knowledge that I acquired during my studies really laid a baseline of what my body needed and how it would feel if I didn’t provide it with those nutrients.

We do need to eat and there is a reason that we need to eat. There is a reason why what comes from mother earth rather than a package made in a lab makes you feel better and healthier.

In this modern world, I see that many have lost that knowledge and are confused, stressed and oblivious around what fuels their bodies into being the best versions of them. Whilst supporting them enough to not reach for quick sources of energy.

Because that is exactly what is going to happen if you are lacking a nutrient. You are going to reach for sugar, fat and caffeine to get a quick source of energy.

Your mind and body are not separate.
Each one affects each other.

It was from my struggle with emotional eating that I decided to become a Naturopath. I was obsessed with food, what to eat and not, and I thought that I could find the scientific and biochemical reason to my binge eating and cravings.

All the knowledge that I acquired during my studies really laid a baseline of what my body needed and how it would feel if I didn’t provide it with those nutrients.

We do need to eat and there is a reason that we need to eat. There is a reason why what comes from mother earth rather than a package made in a lab makes you feel better and healthier.

In this modern world, I see that many have lost that knowledge and are confused, stressed and oblivious around what fuels their bodies into being the best versions of them. Whilst supporting them enough to not reach for quick sources of energy.

Because that is exactly what is going to happen if you are lacking a nutrient. You are going to reach for sugar, fat and caffeine to get a quick source of energy.

Whilst dealing with the subconscious mind and the programming that makes us reach for food. We also need to address the psychological reasons to why that happens.

Which one can you relate to?

You might feel like any of these is the only way to balance out your binge the night before. Or it has been such a strong pattern in your life that you don't even consider it to be something you can change or that would affect emotional eating at all.

What we want to focus in bringing in to replace these patterns is self-love, boundaries and balance.
No extreme will cancel out another extreme. It just adds to it.
If you wake up from a binge and feel guilt and shame, restricting and "doing a cleanse" is not the solution, it's a punishment.
If you end up giving more of our energy and time and end up feeling depleted and then need to fill it up with food as a reward, the solution is to acknowledge the behaviour and the lesson to speak up on what you need and want.

The goal is to see what pattern is BEHIND what you are eating. What thoughts and beliefs are there behind leading up to the moment you decide to use food as a crutch?

All of our energy goes towards trying to control ourselves, find our motivation again to eat healthy and get back on track.
In those times it’s hard to stay positive and to see the bigger picture of this.

But it’s those times that you need to reach out for help. When we feel stuck or at our lowest, that’s the time when we benefit the most from saying “maybe I need some help”.

Even though I am excellent in helping myself and my own practise of releasing my own trauma is stronger than most people, I go to see other practitioners and healers whenever I get stuck. You are not expected to solve everything yourself.

And if you do think so, maybe ask yourself:
“Why do I always need to solve everything myself?”

My beginning stage of getting to the root of my emotional eating was me studying nutritional medicine (as a part of my Naturopathy degree). I learnt all the biochemical interactions between food and our bodies. I was so sure at that time that all my problems had to do with lack of nutrients or not detoxing properly.

Then a few years later, I knew exactly what to do and had tried every health fad that existed (for educational research and personal interest of course). To my confusion, my bingeing habits were still there.

To give credit where credit is due. The knowledge and journey of becoming a naturopath did change my whole world and view on food and it did really help me take steps forward in healing my emotional eating. The physical aspects of emotional eating play and important role in your healing journey.

However, there was so much more to uncover. And the realisation that what I thought was the missing clue (my naturopathic knowledge) was just the beginning of what made me go for a much bigger soul search.

And that was what I was supposed to do. Everything we learn is a step on the way of coming back to our true authentic self. And that journey is uniquely yours. There is no finish line, no end point.

Every time the emotional eating came up for me it was an invitation to learn something new about myself. An invitation to dive deeper.

And this is my invitation to you. If you are struggling with emotional eating, it is time that you dive deeper.

How do we look at our shame?

Ok, so let’s say you have written down all your “not good enough” and “I should be”.

Then you trace it back to where you picked up that programming.
You might have even decided that you don’t want to have that programming any more or you want to change it.

Then what?
Does it just change from that seemingly easy exercise.

The answer is both yes and no.

A change is already happening when you decide to look at it. When you open your mind enough and step out of yourself enough to look at yourself and your different parts with new eyes.

A change has already started taking place.

But next step is to reprogram your mind and release this conditioning from a subconscious level.

In our second week in Calm Your Cravings I teach you the process of how to do that.

Because that is the week we uncover self-sabotage and as you might have guessed. The root is shame and shadow.

You’d be surprised how much motivation and willpower can come from integrating our shame. And then you’ll see yourself making positive changes from a place of wanting to feel great just cause you deserve it and love yourself. Rather than a self punishment.

Whenever a birthday or holidays was coming up, I used to “prepare myself” to try to avoid having it turn into a overeating day.

I would:
- Wake up and exercise hard
- Eat healthy foods before
- Decide what I was goi g to say no to
- Calculate what I was eating to know how many crackers with cheese I could have.

But it always ended up the same way

After one bite of even just something as “innocent” as bread. My whole day was ruined and I thought:

“ I might as well eat today and I’ll start from zero tomorrow and do it well”

This happened over and over again.
And at the same time, I would feel bloated, ashamed and uncomfortable at the gathering.

All I was thinking about was how I was feeling, looking and comparing myself to others.

I was so trapped in my misery.

When I started working through my subconscious beliefs around this I realised that I didn’t feel safe connecting at all and I actually wanted to hide.
Another limiting belief I was carrying was that; if I didn’t eat what was served, someone would be upset.
But the one that surprised me the most was that I actually didn’t feel loved and connected at all if I didn’t eat what they were offering.

It’s both interesting and funny how we pick these things up since we are children. But that’s when our subconscious programming is made.

This happens even when we have a so called “perfect” childhood.

Because each family member is doing the best they can with what they have. And it’s not always about immediate family. Sometimes it comes from what we are watching around us in our society, culture, from screens and advertisement.

By debunking, reprogramming and unpacking all of these beliefs and stagnant energy within our bodies. We are coming back to our authentic selves. Our whole and perfect selves. Cause remember, you are whole and perfect. When you came into this world you ate when you were hungry and you were free and yourself. What you picked up along the way, you can drop as easily.
